Programm: Jazz History 1990 – 2000

For a special 1990-2000 session Jazz History invites David Lamon co-founder and host. David Lamon discovers jazz with 90’s rap. Decrypting record covers to find which samples were used by DJ Premier, Pete Rock or Madlib. As a DJ, he has performed at Cully Jazz Festival, La Bâtie-Festival de Genève, Montreux Jazz Festival and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival in Leysin, creating natural bridges between funk, house, jazz and rap. He likes to think that jazz is above all a state of mind and an approach to music, more than any other genre break its own codes to better reinvent itself and remain the music of the future.

At the end of the decade, late twentieth century, from bossa to boombap, moods to grooves, Jazz is a gold mine for urban music. Jazz get back its swing in underground clubs: beats, bass lines, rhythms, jazz spices loops and samples from the golden era of hip hop DJs.
